virtualizer clipping, pro tools headroom ok?
Guys, I need help...
when I send a signal from Pro tools to behringer virtualizer via digi 002 rack, the signal is clipped in the behringer, yet I still have headroom in Pro Tools...I know this is a common problem, and I even read about it in SOS magazine recently, but i cannot browse through my collection now, I have no idea what issue it was my operating levels are all -10DbV.... please help! thanks Dino |

Re: virtualizer clipping, pro tools headroom ok?
Are you certain you've set the output level on the 002 at the same level as the input for the Behringer? I would use +4 on both, but I suspect you're sending +4 levels to a -10 input.

I am sure, and now I've set them all to 4dBu...still the same...by the way, why should one use -10DbV for home recording , and 4DBu for professional use...what's the difference?

Re: virtualizer clipping, pro tools headroom ok?
The difference is that real pro equipment has always been +4, and cheaper 'prosumer' equipment was -10. Simply, this describes the nominal level of the signals.
But since both your devices support +4, use that, since the higher signal level makes the lines less susceptible to extraneous noise. Are you using sends? Does it clean up if you reduce the send level? Does it clean up if you set the Digi to -10 output running into Behringer set for +4 input?
