Default Yikes or Sawtooth

I'm just a little confused. Maybe one of you can set me straight. When the G4's were coming out it was reported that the 400 Mhz version would have basically an old G3 "blue" logic board while the 450 and 500 (Yeah, right) logic board would be much advanced (more firewire, faster PCI bus, etc.)

After Apple did their infamous backpedalling act and announced the 350/400/450 lineup, it got a little deep. MacAddict reports that all G4 models are now shipping with the newer logic board design. They go on to say you can recognize one board over the other by how the audio ports are configured (horizontally on one board, vertically on the other) but they are uncharacteristically vague about which is which and what the significant differences are, and of course what this means to Digi users.

Are these differring logic boards what you guys are referring to when you are talking about Sawtooth and Yikes? Somehow I missed that, I guess.

So which is best? What gotcha's do we need to be aware of? Is the velocity engine a function of the logic board or is it native to all G4 processors? Digi 001 should work OK with either...right?

Please help! This confusion is my only obstacle to buying a Digi/G4 rig.

Any of the G4's, the new or the older models work great with the Digi 001. I have a G4 350, the earliest version, and pro tools works unreal on my machine. I wouldn't get too hung up on that stuff, they're all good machines, of course if money is not an issue than go for the brand new 500 !
