Automating 2 seperate EQ plug-in settings
I have 3 piano tracks which I want to start out with a telephone type EQ and then either gradually or immediately move to my Normal EQ settings for that track. What's the best way to do this? I can't really do it in real time, the settings are to complex. Ideally at point X it switches the plugin from my stored EQ setting 1 to stored EQ setting 2.
I could do it with audiosuite on a region basis, but am wondering if there is a way to do this as plug-ins. Thanks! |

Re: Automating 2 seperate EQ plug-in settings
You could route all three tracks through one Aux and then apply the EQ automation you want to the Aux track so that all three tracks get the same EQ. As far as making the settings change immediately you can use Snapshot automation to do that. It's described on page 303 of the Pro Tools 5.0 manual, but here's a brief summary of how to do it. -Set your EQ to the setting that you want to your track/tune/etc. to start with. - Drop the cursor anywhere before you want the change to take place. - After you have automation enabled all the parameters of the EQ (or any plugin) that you want to automate, go to the "Edit" menu at the top of the screen and choose "Write Automation to.... Current parameter or To all enabled parameters. Current parameter applies only to the automation parameter that you are currently looking at. All enabled parameters applies to all plugin parameters you selected in the automation window of that plugin. This process drops an automation break point at the cursor location. Now drop the cursor at the location (or make a selection) where you want the EQ to change. Set the EQ to the new setting. Select Write automation to all enabled parameters under the edit menu. This should do it but there's potential to get deeper with it and it's detailed in the manual. Jon Digidesign Product Specialist |

Re: Automating 2 seperate EQ plug-in settings
route all tracks to an aux using pre-fader. insert an eq on the aux, like the focusrite. Set the Hipass and Lowpass filters for automation. Then go to the edit widndow, bring the automation for low pass up and set it to taste. repeat with hipass... that'll do it quickly and easily. mute what you don't need for each section of the song.
