Default Re: PTMP 7.4 midi bugs

Well Nick I took your suggestion and brought up a Instrument track and inserted a VI. I don't have any of the ones that you suggested but I do have the Structure Free VI. Yesterday evening was the second evening that I tested it. I'm trying to not speak to quickly but so far it is working perfectly.

The 8x8 is completely off and the Keystation is in usb. By-the-way, to answer your previous question, no I was not using both midi & usb in the Keystation. The Control Surface is on, and going thru the 4x4, and so far all is well, but I honestly hope that I am not religated to this set up. This would severly limit me because I don't have but 2 actual VI's and no money to buy more.

The Roland MV-8000 won't serve as an adequate controller because it is a drum sampler.

I really must figure out why the Keystation, 8x8, and PTMP won't play nice.

Peace
Servon

So, it sounds like the problem is with the Keystation talking through the 8X8. Not sure what your keystation has on it, but some of them have controls that can be used in do some of the same features as a control surface. Maybe there are messges that are conflicting.

Or maybe the problem is just with the 8X8. Try recoriding some midi to a track using the VI for sound. Then after you record some midi, stop sending it to the VI and send it to the 8X8 into one of the Sound Models you have. Try using the already recorded midi to record a sample off of one of your units, back into ProTools as audio. That a way to test your 8X8 without having it run at the same time as the Keystation is sending data for recording. If you have problems then its only the 8X8 and not the Keystation at all. If that works ok, then its probably with the Keystation and the 8X8 having a conflict.

If your running PTMP 8.0 then you have the DB-33 (Organ), Vaccume (Moog Synth) and Mini Grand (Piano). They all come free with the software. They might only work on a stereo instrument track though. If you were using a mono, they might not be available. Use a stereo. If your on 7.4 or earlier, your out of luck on those, and I would love to know how you got Structure Free on 7.4.

Doesn't the MV-8000 have pads on it? What I was suggesting is record midi from your MV-8000 using the pads a triggers.

Thanks again for all the valuable input. Somehow, some way we are going to get at the root of the problem.

"and I would love to know how you got Structure Free on 7.4"
I simply went to the Digidesign site and was looking for free plugins, downloaded Struture Free and it just works. If it is not suppose to work in 7.4 maybe it only works because I have the latest "cs" update.

I am not able to buy the 8.0 upgrade yet. Besides I'd rather wait til they have most of the bugs out.

I will try your suggestions as soon as I am able.

Peace
Servon

Its working great man! I've been producing on this thing for over two months not. I love it. Would never go back to PT7. Can't find any bugs either. Not to say there arn't there, but for most operation you're just fine.

Let me know how this MIDI thing ends up.
