I would like to connect the inputs outputs and be able to hear audio through powered monitors directly from the Avid S3 but not using AVB is this possible.

The S3 is a control surface with built in AVB interface. It is not a mixer (Pro Tools is the mixer). It has very limited ability to monitor direct input pairs--In 1-2 or In 3-4 (but why you would want to do that I am not sure).

You are using some other interface as well right?--if not I cannot see what you are asking.

If you are using another interface then just use it's outputs for your monitors, you cannot (and should not want to try to) aggregate the AVB and whatever other interface you have.

If you *really* wanted to you can monitor an input pair on the S3, but then you need to get the output from your interface into the S3. More wiring going to the control surface and more junk in the signal path that you may not need. How to set up direct monitoring if you want to do this is clearly explained in the S3 getting started documentation. But again I am not sure why you would bother (if the interface does not have rudimentary monitor controls, there are lots of other third party options that might be better choices).

If you are loaning/evaluating an S3 from a dealer and they cannot help you with questions like this, well that tells you to find a different dealer.
