Default Re: Good way to export from 25 fps to 24 fps?

I'm in the middle of this now, and really hating it!
As Minister has said, doing the SRC within PT to get from 24 to 25 works perfectly.
The pitching is a different story altogether, I started a thread, "X-Form Processing Time" on GS if anyone cares to be bored :)

There HAS to be a better (faster) way, how are the large TV houses with multiple shows needing to go through the NTSC>PAL process doing this?

Oh and sorry, I know the OP was posting about going from 25 to 24....just venting

SRC and then pitch shift with Time Factory has had the best results so far for me. I have also found that treating the stems and recombining to constitute the final mix is by far the better result (than only treating the final mix).

Erik, about how long does it take for Time Factory to pitch, say, the 5.1 MX stem for 90-minutes worth of film?
If it sounds good and it's faster than 9 hours (X-Form in Polyphonic Mode) I'm all ears!!

Thanks :)

Joe

Hi Joe,

it depends on the algorithm you use in timefactory:

for the dialog stem I use mpex3 voice best mode, which takes around 3 minutes for a 5.1 20 minute reel,

for the music stem I use mpex3 poly best, which takes considerably longer, around 40 minutes for a 5.1 20 minute reel.

I like timefactory very much and use it on all my 24->25 and vice versa transfers. I always do two passes as described before. And always work in stems. It takes longer, but is definitely worth it.

Hi Joe,
As Matt points out the more complex the algorithm the longer it takes. I have found X-Form to leave those tell tale glitches lying around so as far as how long it takes, I make the time for a long render as part of the workflow. I know that makes changes a bugger but I guess it's whatever is the best of a bad deal!
Now if everything was at 25fps what a wonderful world that would be.

Thank you, Matt & Eric!
I do love the way X-Form sounds on Music and FX, at least in Polyphonic Mode, but the time required is just not in any way cost effective or efficient.

Going to look into Time Factory!

best,

Joe

Don't want to diverge from the original thread, but has anyone tried elastic audio's offline processing for this? I've never tried, but maybe it could be a good alternative.

Joe

Try zplanes "Elastique" for the pitch. It is real time but the results on a full mix are the best I have ever heard. Really worth checking out. If you have all your stems in one session you can stick it on all the sample rate converted tracks and rerecord all your stems at once.
