Default Making an Instrument Track into Audio

hi guys

i'm having a big problem trying to create an audio track from a instrument track
i just want to make little drums loops and stuff and consolidate them into audio so i save on processing power

i created an instrument track, then inserted Xpand2 on it.
i recorded my midi sequence and everything plays back fine and all...

but...
i just want to record it so that it's just one plain old consolidated audio track

so, i made my outputs of the inst. track analog 1-2 AND bus 1-2

i created a new stereo AUDIO track and made its input bus 1-2,
but nothing happens
it's as if nothing is going into the new audio track i made

i'm sure the routing is correct

what am i doing wrong??
=/

i though using "consolidate" on the inst. track would work, but it just consolidated the midi notes

what's the best/fastest way to record my instrument track?

thank you!

Do you "record enable" the audio track, and then do a "record", not just a "play"?

You can also do this by creating a send.

As said, record enabling is required and you may not see anything on the meters until you start to record depending on what your input monitoring is set to.
