Default Mbox2 Micro As USB DAC

I recently unearthed an Mbox2 Micro from my storage unit and wish to use it purely as an external USB DAC to improve the quality of the sound I get from my macbook pro to my headphones. Is this possible considering I am on El-Capitan (10.11.6) which is not supported anymore by Digidesign for the hardware?

Thanks in advance.
