Default OWC Mecury Elite Pro QX2 drive now Independent mode

The OWC Mercury Elite Pro QX2 is a 4 bay drive enclosure (non-Thunderbolt) that up until now was only for RAID configurations. They are now shipping with the ability to switch to Independent mode.

These drives do not have Thunderbolt connections, but have ESATA, Firewire 800, and USB 3.0. But they are also much cheaper than OWC's equivalent Thunderbolt 4 drive unit, especially for the enclosure only model.

This may be of interest to people with non-Thunderbolt computers, or even those with Thunderbolt who want to save some money and are able to make use of Esata or USB 3 (or FW800).

Note that these appear to only take traditional spinning hard drives, and not SSD's.

Here's the article on this:

Nice. Good price point. Seems you're paying only about $120 for the enclosure.

I believe you can easily use SSD disks by using adapters (3.5" –> 2.5").
