MacBook Pro 2011/Keep or No
Hi All,
I'm looking to do a, (long overdue), update to PT12.whatever.whatever. I love the 17" MacBook Pro I got in 2011 when I tried this the first time and I still want to use it. Can't stand the new MBPros. For my '11 I'll have to get a new hard drive to get to 32gb, an intel i5 processor (if that can even be installed-if it's even necessary-don't know-do you know?), memory, etc., (already updated the operating system), in order to do it. What do you think? Keep the 17" and do all that? Would that work? Is a new one the only way to get going again? Anyone's thoughts and advice are greatly appreciated as always. Best, Adam |

If you have a 17" Macbook Pro from 2011, isn't that already an i7 processor? FWIW I use a 2011 Macbook Pro as my mobile machine and it still works great with PT12 and OS Sierra.

Could/should be. compared to a 2017. https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/4876612 You are looking at a 50% improvement, but not too shabby really. |

How about posting the exact model (model number or EMC) and config of your current MBP if you are going to ask for advice on it? What drives do you have? If your 17" MBP CPU is underpowered the best way to deal with that is probably to buy a used faster 17" MBP one on EBay or similar. |
