Default Vocals - effects

Hi
I have recorded a basic rock tune, and would like to enhance the vocals. So far they were recorded totally clean...
What are examples of Dverb or Delay or whatever you have had success with that I can try. I usually just fiddle trial and error with this - but would like to try something more professional.
Thanks
Ghosty

Suppose it was a bit of a broad question! I know it is all a personal taste thing - but I need some basics to start off with.. must I use a compressor, reverb or delay. Which comes first in the chain?
Pearl Jam, Soundgarden type vocal would fit I think.

Man... Someone once posted an excellent 'formula' for vocal treatment her eon the DUC and I thought I could easily find it back. It was sticky worthy! But alas, no dice, no rice.
