Default S3 AVB reliability

Has anyone else found that the S3 as an AVB CoreAudio device sometimes outputs no sound? If I leave the computer for a while, then it seems to work. (Yes, I have checked that the outputs are not muted on the S3 itself.)

I ran avbdiagnose it can definitely see the S3 (Audio MIDI Setup also confirms this). The only thing that might be a bit non-standard is that I'm running at 96k. When it does work, it works fine.

Using: Mac OS X 10.10.3 with latest firmware (1.1.3) on a Retina MacBook Pro with a Thunderbolt Ethernet interface.

Shouldn't be relevant as same issue with CoreAudio, but 12.

Reboot. Edit: that doesn't always work, at which point power cycling the S3 seems to help. This happened with both my old (13" rMBP) and new (15" rMBP) laptops, both running Yosemite (10.10.3). The S3 is directly attached to a Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter and AVB is always visible in Audio MIDI Setup – it's simply that audio is not being passed, and to repeat, it's not because Cut is enabled in the S3 configuration.

It would be relevant if you were using a unsupported version with the S3such as 10 that was my only reason for asking.

Right, but you don't need to have PT installed at all to use AVB with the S3.

Hi Luke

You are not alone. We have also experienced a similar problem. It's an intermittent problem, not confined to Pro Tools. My hunch is it's a 10.10.3 compatibility issue. We shall be testing our S3 on a 10.9.x system and will let you know our findings. Did you happen to get anywhere with this issue?

Eric

I pretty much just always reboot before starting Pro Tools now, seems to be working OK.
