Default Running out of steam

I don't get it. PTLE 8 as working great on my MBP 2.4Hz ith 4 GB RAM with a MBox Mini. Now I keep freezing up and getting messages saying to increase the H/W buffer size which I have done to the max. Things work for a while then I get another freeze and a message to increase CPU usage which I do for only temporary benefit. No matter what I do my system keeps freezing up and I get messages to increase the H/W buffer.

I have never had this problem with my PTHD system on a G5.

Are you recording audio onto a separate drive?

Are all plugins up to date and qualified?

Are you running any unnecessary background services?

Does the MBP shows an DAE option for 1 or 2 RTAS processors (my dual does--assume core duo does too)?
If it does make sure its set to 1 processor. The setting could have been changed. Happened to me, with similar symptoms.

I am not using a separate hard drive and I am only using the plugins that came with PT 8

Default Problem solved

Mikeren.... you hit the nail on the head. My DAE option was set on 2 processors for RTAS and I changed it over to 1 processor and no more freezes or crashes.

I am curious why the RTAS can's use more than one processor.... oh, well.... back to making music.

Many thanks to all.

You should only need to this if you have non Pro Tools optimized plugins, i wouldn't expect any of the digi plugins to come under this banner, definitely no third party plugins?

One problem is that some idiot left Elastic audio enabled by default when you install pro tools 8. This means every new track you create gets Elastic audio put on it for who knows what reason. Go to the preferences dialog and disable that...it's poison...
