Best workhorse plug ins - starting again!
Hoping everyone can give me the benefit of their experience.
Just upgraded from PT 7 to 2020.5. Have pretty much always used PT stock and waves bundle plug ins to date but as it’s been over 15 years since I got all this I’m starting from scratch. Given myself a max £500 budget. Grateful for suggestions on the best mixing basics ie compression, reverb, eq, delay etc. I know waves but seems there are better alternatives now. I hear the fab filter stuff is excellent. I would rather but as a pack but not sure that is the way forward.. Grateful for suggestions...thank you |

I haven’t but this definitely seems worth a look. Thank you. I guess I’m a bit old school in terms of owning stuff and also like to keep things relatively simple by having fewer go to tools. But could be time to dip the old toe!

Re: Best workhorse plug ins - starting again!
Yes, as much as I am anti-subscription I would try a subscription as you are starting from scratch. I'd go with the Plugin Alliance one. If you choose the 12 month upfront payment you'll get a voucher to spend (wait till the major quarterly sale) for the subscription value.
You could go with the Slate sub which are excellent plugins but you'll be only rewarded with ongoing subscription costs The only thing with a subscription is you'll have a slew of plugins and never get to really know them well very quickly. Another approach is to demo the ones you fancy and buy them when they come up for sale. Plugin Alliance will soon give you a $25 voucher or higher when you reach their threshold. Stephen

Re: Best workhorse plug ins - starting again!
For your budget I would definitely consider subscriptions.
Sonnox is a choice. So is Plugin Alliance. The Avid everything bundle is a great value and also a good set of tools. McDSP stuff is still great and they have an affordable bundle. So many options now! I have friends who rely on the Slate bundle, and friends who still swear by Waves.

Re: Best workhorse plug ins - starting again!
For me, the Slate Everything bundle covers a lot of ground. And what it doesn't cover, I get with these Waves plugins:
JJP Signature(at least the Drum plugin that I can't live without) JJP Analog Legends(at least the Puigtech) F6(which might be matched by the Slate Infinity EQ, which I need to test more) And any version of Melodyne. Create a Waves account(if you haven't already) and wait for a sale on any of that stuff(and join the forum at dontcrack.com for even better Waves deals). I love Sonnox, but its pricey. Like McDSP fine, but have things covered already. Love Plugin Alliance, but their authorization gave me so many headaches that I just gave up on them. Just my 2 cents

Re: Best workhorse plug ins - starting again!
One of those workhorse plugs the thread is all about. Also one of the great ones that work AAX-DSP in PT and live consoles

Don’t overlook Massey. Simple and unassuming, but creative and effective at the same time.

I'll throw Soundtoys bundle(on sale is best) in the mix as well as Softube bundle(again, when on sale)
