I don't know of any audio examples myself. Best to just "Google" what you're after.

The problem with what you're sugesting is that however the source sound was captured, you're still listening through your own converters.

In my opinion, audio examples aren't really the way to compare the quality between A/D converters and of course D/A conversion comes after the fact, so is even more irrelevant.

Maybe see if you can find any audio-waveform images of test signals recorded with different A/D converters to see if there is a difference in the sample accuracy or something.

Like anything else also, the sound of a converter is subjective, just as it is with microphones, preamps etc. Some pros don't like the "sound" of Apogee converters for example. The same way they may prefer the sound of a Neve console to an SSL.

I think, that unless you've got the budget to go out and try/buy high-end converters for either A/D or D/A, you'll be fine with what you've got. Remember that there's no such point where you won't desire any more or better gear! That's the curse of this game!

A high-end converter will probably highlight any shortcomings your mics/preamps may have (depending on what they are) or your monitors. They all play their part in the chain.

They'll make less of a difference to the quality of a recording than the actual quality of the music being recorded.
