I have been experiencing Allot of issues with this machine and protools since I bought it. This is back when my thought process was " Its expensive and powerful so it will do the job flawlessly" lol.. haha Live and learn i guess.. Now im starting to understand how specific things must be with a protools machine. Long story short here is my sandra report and i would appreciate it if one of you Gurus will give me and idea on what to replace or if i should just build a brand new machine Thanks in advance. ( im slowly going crazzy over this haha)

I'm not sure but aren't most people having success at x79 chipsets?

Yes. An X79 chipset on a Gigabyte or Asus board with an Intel Sandy Bridge-E CPU is the current way to go.

Default Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

I'm in the the middle of a new build using the GIGABYTE GA-X79-UD3 LGA 2011 Intel X79, and Intel Core i7-3820 Sandy Bridge-E 3.6GHz.

The mid tower case I purchased has a USB3 connection on the top of the case. The cable from that connection actually has a USB3 connector on the end of it which does not mate with the USB3 9 pin connector on the motherboard.
Is there an adapter available, or do I have to put a 9 pin female connector on the end?
Is there a wiring diagram available showing the proper pin coneections?

Thanks

Can you be specific on problems??

my take:
your motherboard, while may be fine is not a tested board among us. cant verify it as good or bad.

your hard drive situation concerns me. your C: drive seems to be a WD raptor 10,000 rpm. the problem is that it is a 16 mb cache drive. for our needs, 32-64mb cache drives are better performers, especially when using vi's that stream samples.

are you recording to the usb drive then?? this could be part of the problem

are your vid card drivers updated?? this can be the source of problems.

Ram: you could be causing issues by only using 2 of your 4 ram channels. best performance is by feeding ram separately to each channel. in other words, install your ram in 4 stick sets.

i would look into updating the bios.

these are my initial thoughts.

the connector on the board might be a "dual" port connector and the cable from the case is a single. probably is fine, it just goes onto 1 side of the port. the pinout is on the board typically or in the manual, but the cable coming out of the case should be colored. mate the + with red or - with black on the board. one side of the port on the board will be missing a pin. will be the easiest side to install it in.

Default Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

My main problem is my sessions are glitch end out with constant errors and all most always end up freezing my machine with a buzzing noise ( I've heard it is due to my FireWire mbox 3 pro) I hadn't a clue about the WD hard drive and the cache...I have no clue what u mean about the ram also. I'm a little computer savvy but not that much I apologize for my stupidity lol .. My vid card is updated ..and I am recording to a USB 3 drive...I am planning on upgrading my system in the next few days, I have had enough of the headache. What would you suggest for me to get to have a very power full system that can run many vst's and heavy processing. I'm thinking of going the x79 route,is that the best way to go? And also what can I keep from my current system? Thx in advance
