Default Canopus DV video and Automatic delay compensation

Hi all

I write music to picture and I am using the Canopus ADVC 110 to run DV out of my mac's firewire port. [I'm in the UK so it's PAL 25 frames] My Digidealer advised me to set the movie offset to 18 quarter frames. Oh, I run the movie output on a CRT video monitor, so no delay there.....

I always feel the sync is slightly soft and I also wonder how/if automatic delay compensation affects the movies timing. Does the delay compensation also affect the timing of a quicktime movie in relation to the audio? Any info Digi?

Also, when I am spotting hit points or sync FX and moving frame at a time is my audio and video frame accurately locked? I used to use an Aurora Fuse card under OS9, which felt really tight sync-wise but isn't supported under OSX and I don't really want to stump up for an Igniter card [plus when I get my next Mac it will probably only have 3 PCI slots...]

Any thoughts?

System:
Mirror Door 1.25 Ghz Mac
OS 10.3.8
PT 6.9.1cs1
HD2
Sync I/O
Atto SCSI
Canopus ADVC

Excellent Article Here

The Canopus needs to be offset by about 4 frames.
Not sure about ADC.

Thanks, I've read the article before and been tempted to buy a Syncheck. My 18 quarter frames would be just over 4 frames, as you suggest. What I do want to know is how Automatic delay compensation and quicktime interact, and whether I can trust spotting to the DV quicktime movie

Digi?

Bump...

Digidesign, any info on whether using automatic delay compensation affects the sync of a Quicktime movie output via Firewire to a Canopus ADVC 110?

Thanks,

PB
