Default Digi003 Driver issue?? + Windows 7 64bit

I have recently built a new machine:

Intel i7-2600k 3.4Ghz
MSi P67A-GD65 Intel P67 (REV B3)
8GB Corsair Vengeance Blue
MSi GeForce GT210 512mb DDR2 (NVidea)
4x Sata HDs
Sony AD-7260S-0B 24x Internal CD Drive
550W Power supply
Onboard FW - VIA
Digi003 (2007)
Roland UM2

This has Windows 7 64bit installed all up to date. I have done the various recommended various audio tweaks - i.e. Onboard Audio "OFF", Graphics "UNTICKED" - so no fancy stuff.

I have also installed Cubase 4 (32bit) which is running Jbridge for the various 32bit programmes.
Everything works apart from a steady audio experience . It glitches/pops and turns the audio into what sounds like a low bit rate even though the bit rate states the set 24bit. I believe that the issue is drivers that others have raised on this forum.
I have done everything recommended that I have so far have seen (maybe there is more to see?).
Indeed, drive v8.0.4b works best though the audio turns crunchy within 1 minute of operating C4 on my system. If I try a more up to date v9 003 driver, the system freezes often and/or blue screens.

I am running through various checks atm:
Memtest and a Voltage test for my power supply (looks close to 528w being needed).

The motherboard has 2 power plug sockets, one of which has 8 holes, 4 were covered, and the power supply has only 4 for that. Wondering if this could be an issue also?

I have been in good communication with J who made Jbridge, he doesn't think that it is to do with jbridge, and even sent me a beta version to check, though, still the same issues.

So, just to recap on the possible issues:
1/ Digi003 drivers just do not work so I should buy a Motu instead.
2/ Motherboard needs another power plug input so a new supply is needed
3/ Firewire needs to be a Texas Instruments one and not a VIA (I need to know if this is right with the 003?). I could buy a firewire card.
4) The bios is set to work as IDE and should be ACPI? So reinstall everything (nooo pleease z)
5) Jbridge is all set up wrongly? I have followed all instructions and so everything should be working..
6) check this out, could it be the issue? http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=1852473&mpage=1

Are there any tests I could do to see what on earth could be the main issue here?
Many thanks

Just some thoughts here:
1-003 drivers do work. its not the drivers at fault(assuming you have the correct drivers)
2-motherboard power needs to be done correctly, so this may be a problem.
3-might be worth a try. VIA used to be a show stopper. Not sure these days
4-IDE will work, but you won't get the best performance or hot-swap capability with SATA and eSATA drives. AHCI would have been the best choice, but it would require starting over.
5-I don't know what Jbridge is or does, but I would uninstall, and install Pro Tools first. Once PT and the 993 are working, THEN try adding other stuff.
6-not sure I I don't use CuBase(and Pro Tools works well on my rig.

Default Re: Digi003 Driver issue?? + Windows 7 64bit

I also have problems with the drivers v.9/v.9.0.265 (003R + PC windows 7 64bit)
have the same problems as all users that use "002/003 + win7 + some third-party audio software like Cubase, SoundForge, Acid.

These are the tested problems of drivers v.9/v.9.0.265:

1) on cubase 5-32bit, the sound (audio tracks) crackles, no normal good audio
2) the midi input of 003 (5pin) disappears when I change project from cubase, or change asio value.
3) on SoundForge 10, the graphic does not move in real time with audio, the audio runs but the graphics are still as a picture.

this is important to understand that the problem is given by the driver v.9:
using the driver v.8.0.4b things go a little better, the problems described in paragraph 1 and 3 disappear , but there remains the problem of MIDI in cubase (step 2)

however, using both drivers, when you start win7, the 1394 led of 003R flashes, when it should be turned Off, or On when to play, not blinking.

I do not use protools, but I've done the win7 optimizations recommended by avid and also from Focusrite.

The "003" is connected to the firewire integrated on the motherboard (asus P7P55D-E) and the controller 1394 is "VIA 6308P chipset"

connecting the "003" to another PC with different motherboard (asus P5K), but the exact same chipset firewire VIA6308P with WindowsXP and "digi driver v.7", I do not have any kind of problem, audio and midi work perfectly. (unfortunately I could not install the Driver v.7 on win7x64, I could try if it worked differently than v.9...)

the only test that I have left to do is try a different firewire controller, I found a 20$ Texas Instruments PCI card:

LYCOM FW-101TI 3doors FireWire 1394a PCI Host Adapter Low Profile
Texas Instruments TI chipset TSB43AB23

I can not purchase a card more expensive without the guarantee that this will solve the problem...

having said that, I think the possible causes to solve problems between Avid 003 drivers/win7 and third party audio softwares are... in order of importance:

1) Avid 64bit drivers for 003
2) Windows 7 64bit
3) Firewire Card
4) change audio-midi interface

albee1952...I understand that you have no problems with the 003 + drivers v.9 + protools

you use the 003 connected to the firewire port on the motherboard Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R (Texas Instruments TSB43AB23) is right?

you also use "windows 7 64bit" ?

Can you confirm this?

If Yes, then, using a PCI firewire card T.I.TSB43AB23 perhaps solve the problems ....?

Many Thanks

Yes to Windows 7 64 bit and using onboard firewire, although I got a slight bump in performance by adding a SIIG firewire card. In past years, the VIA firewire was usually not compatible, but some folks have said that is no longer a problem. I wish I had some better insight for you. You should look at the driver that is in use for the firewire port and try any others that may be available already. On my system, I can go to Device Manager and double-click on the firewire controller, choose Update Driver>Let Me Choose From a List> and I find 3 drivers there. The TI compliant(choice #3 for me) works the best, although Avid recommends the Legacy driver(choice #2 on my system).

thanks!

i'll try first to change the firewire driver in windows7 (now I'm using the "legacy")

if nothing changes or gets worse, I'll try to buy the TexasInstruments PCI card (TSB43AB23), hopefully that will solve the problem between "003 5pin midi input" and cubase...and maybe that will solve the v.9 driver audio issue "glitches/clicks'n'pops"

Also, the 003 drivers must be installed before the Avid hardware is ever connected to the computer.

More information is in my post #15 on this thread: http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?p...=1#post1792191

thanks for the help, but your advice, I know already, does not solve the problems described, these problems can be solved only by Avid, rewriting the driver...

Cool Re: Digi003 Driver issue?? + Windows 7 64bit

I am glad to say that I have fixed the issue simply by turning off the wireless internet card 801.1 in device manager whenever I do music on my machine. Now it is rock solid with Cubase 6 32+64bit and Cubase 4 32bit.

I have since not checked out driver Digi003 v9, though confirm that v8.0.4b is working solidly atm. As it simply works now, I am not even going to tempt fate by trying out another driver.
Silly really that I did not consider the PCI slots before as that would have saved me weeks of brain brains. The 801.1 wireless card was simply chucking spikes at the firewire.

Yesterday morning I bought a TI card on ebay for a fiver, so will have that at the side if need be, though, the last 2 days I can confirm that VIA is working fine with no glitches at all with Cubase 6, Digi003, Windows 7 64bit minus any networking, updates, and tweaked as recommended.

Try that out Johnut...

Talking Re: Digi003 Driver issue?? + Windows 7 64bit

Maybe it is "THE" fix for the suspected driver issue within the 003..?? Please report back!!!
