Default assigning different instruments to different midi channels

I am a little confused on how to do this. How do I assign different instruments to different midi channels with SampleTank 2 and Pro Tools LE 7.4? In SampleTank you are able to assign 16 instruments in SampleTank, how do load different instruments into pro tools without having to load SampleTank 16 times? I don't know if this is correct but so far I have set up in Pro Tools 1 Instrument Track and 4 MIDI Tracks, for example in SampleTank I have a Brass, String, Drums, and a Guitar so how would I load each instrument into their own MIDI Track?

Thank You,

Default Re: assigning different instruments to different midi channels

Two ways come to mind. Both work.

A. Use one Instrument Track and multiple MIDI Tracks.
1. Instantiate SampleTank on a stereo Instrument Track. This track will be used to send MIDI to SampleTank on MIDI channel 1, and to receive ALL the audio from SampleTank.
2. Create additional MIDI Tracks to send MIDI data via other MIDI channels of the same instance of SampleTank. Set the MIDI out of each additional MIDI track to a different MIDI channel in SampleTank. All the audio from SampleTank will come into Pro Tools via the Instrument Track created in step 1.

B. Use multiple Instrument Tracks.
1. Instantiate SampleTank on a stereo Instrument Track. This track will be used to send MIDI to SampleTank on MIDI channel 1, and to receive only the audio from SampleTank out 1+2.
2. Create additional stereo Instrument Tracks tracks to send MIDI data via other MIDI channels of the same instance of SampleTank. Set the MIDI out of each additional Instrument Track to a different MIDI channel in SampleTank.
3. In SampleTank, set the "out" of each part to a consecutive stereo pair (2+3, 4+5, 6+7, etc.).
4. In Pro Tools, set the audio in of each additional Instrument Track to the correct stereo pair from SampleTank (2+3, 4+5, 6+7, etc.). The audio from each part in SampleTank will come into Pro Tools via its own separate Instrument Track.

The second way allows you to further process the audio of each individual sound from SampleTank using plugins on each Instrument Track.

Hope that helped.
