Does MBOX 2 Work on new iMacs
Well I was going to get one of the new iMac's with everything built into the screen (all in one unit) until I started looking through this forum. Does the new iMac work with the MBox 2? How about firewire external hard drives?
If not, does anybody know a Mac computer that I can get that wont give me many problems? I have a Dell Latitude D800 and I want to switch to a desktop setup. All Help Appreciated |

Re: Does MBOX 2 Work on new iMacs
Good question ? But how come no one wants to answer. I will since no one from digidesign wants to tell you the truth. It might not work. That's the true answer. Check this link out. This is taken from the Apple forum.
http://discussions.apple.com/message...857986#5857986 New imacs have a freezing problem too !!!! More details at the Apple support forum. Good Luck ! |

Re: Does MBOX 2 Work on new iMacs
We've answered this several times here in the DUC - the problem with some USB devices and the latest Macs should be resolved by using OS 10.4.11.
We have not fully qualified the latest Macs yet, as they still are in testing, but we don't foresee any major issues, other than the specific issue with USB devices mentioned above. |

Re: Does MBOX 2 Work on new iMacs
wow... Okay. If I were to get a mac to run with an Mbox 2, which mac would you guys recommend I get. Whatever it is, I don't want another laptop. Been there, done that. I need a desktop this time. Something compatible with Protools LE and Mbox 2.

Re: Does MBOX 2 Work on new iMacs
The iMacs are great, and very powerful. I kind of wish they still made a 17" for portability reasons. I still use my 17' iMac G5 for on-location recording... much better than looking at a dinky little LapTop screen. But the 20" should still be portable enough to move around once in a while. Just keep the original box and reinforce it with clear packing tape. Mine has lasted almost 3 years and still transports the iMac well. The 24" iMacs are HUUUUGGGE. They still make me chuckle when I see one.
With that being said, if you have the money get a Mac Pro. It is an amazing powerhouse. I've had my Dual 2.66GHz model for just over a year and it still hauls ass. It handles 48 tracks and 100 plugins barely breaking a sweat. Load it with as much RAM as you can afford, but don't buy it from Apple... too expensive. Muskin.com has great prices as does Macsales.com. At MacSales.com pay the extra for Apple Certified not the cheaper Apple Qualified. Also don't buy Apple Displays, save some money and purchase monitors elsewhere. Apple displays are the best out there and are crisp and clean and bright... but I have seen them with Pro Tools screens burned into them!!! YIKES thats a lot of money to pay for Pro Tools' static screens to ruin them. I paid about $250 a piece for 2- Samsung 20.5" monitors. They def aren't as good as the Apple displays, but paid less for two than one Apple Display costs. Burn in... I don't care... and by the way after over a year of using Pro Tools 5-7 days a week... no burn in. I rotate them every couple of months so the same content isn't on them all of the time. Hope this helps

Re: Does MBOX 2 Work on new iMacs
FYI, I bought a 24" 2.8 GHz imac a couple months ago, and it was freezing up...so I called Apple, reported the problem, and they classified it as dead on arrival, and sent me a brand new one. NO problems at all with the new 24" 2.8GHz iMac.
I don't know if it was a software revision or not, but my new one has no problems. Steve |
