no sorry : you didn't get it

what i liked at the time was that, what ever i was doing i had "my" backups and, that helped me in some occasions. Nothing more.

If there might be a big deal to think of it might be some like, why not a pref to set the way we'd like ?

I mean : it has existed before & now it does not so why not "a middle" position with both options ? ... for dummies like me.

What middle position?

You want to make Pro Tools backup when it does not need to? No change has been made?

Or you want it to force stop or crash Pro Tools so it can do a backup and to hell with what you are doing at that instant?

Hello Darryl, i was just saying i prefer the way it was regarding saving each minute ... also underneath : i hardly understand what was "the big deal" not to leave it this way and implement what ever they wanted for ... i don't know : users like you mabe ? ... whatever

If i recall well one user in this topic said it was working for him so ... mabe it's time for a clean install here ... it's been a long time since last install but again : if one says it's working at his place , there must be some kind of a bug in my computer anyway ...

That's what I'm confused about, it's working as it always did for me (as I described). I need to fix the utility I have that reports on autosaves.

(souvenir ...)

i remember Steve Genwick saying he'd never set auto backups this way (each minute) because of huge amount of backups to cleanup once a project is done.

That is also a big problem if sessions routing kinda is "heavy" + plugins : each backup can weight more than 20Mo

Bur still ... for a dummy like i am : it was useful

Let's keep it on da one baby

I believe you are referring to this post earlier in this thread. I don't think it meant backups every minute is working like a dream. I think this post might be simply saying that PT 2023.6 is working like a dream. Possibly this reply was accidentally intended for another thread. I don't know, but it doesn't seem to align with this thread based on the wording.

Darryl Ramm is correct in that Protools does not perform a backup while protools is doing something else (playback, rendering, copying, bouncing, etc). It will skip that backup until the next minute and try again. Once again, if Protools is doing something, it will skip again until it is idle and available for performing a backup. At the same time, Protools will not make a backup if nothing has changed. So if your session is sitting idle for 10 minutes, it will make a backup in minute one but not for minute two through ten. I hope that clarifies how scheduled backup work.

If it were to be forced to perform a backup while Protools is doing something, (render a pitch change plugin to a selected audio clip), it would backup a version that was only partially completed with the rendering and be unusable. Likewise if Protools was bouncing a mix. the backup would interrupt that bounce and cause a failed bounce or even cause Protools to crash. So as you can see, there are technical reasons not to perform a backup in the middle of a Protools operation or process. Perhaps it is best to do a Control-S immediately after you complete an action or process to save a backup.

I am aware of what you "want" versus what your are getting. However, due to the limitations stated above, this is the way it works.

once again this must have happened thousands of thousands of times without a single crash at my place : my guessings are somehow PT was able to make the difference between "serious" opération in progress and what could be saved on each minute.

So what ever was happening in pro tools, it did work as well as a charm this way .... again : according to the dummy that i am ... now it's obvious things have changed : i'll move on along what so ever, no choice ...
