Default Waves quietly removed RTAS with version 9.91...

Just went to update to 9.91 to test Smack Attack on a project, since it's part of my Mercury bundle.

Well, new Waves Central needed. No problem. Download and run. Unsupported OS. Looks like only 10.10.5 and later will even run the new installer—not just unsupported, removed.

So, I made my way through the site and somehow stumbled upon the Legacy Installer for version 9.6 with an accompanying version of Waves Central ( which immediately updates itself and won't run and get the same error, by the way).

-->Bottom line is the fine print listed under the Legacy 9.6 Installer.
"Last version to support OS 10.8, 10.9, DAE"

All DAE support (RTAS) has been removed. Worse, the new installer ( if you happen to be on Yosemite or later) updates the older versions to remove RTAS. They cannot coexist.

A heads up would have been highly appreciated. That's a LOT of users unable to buy any of the latest plugins.

Crazy there hasn't been any info posted.

Is this why after I updated I can only open the plugins in studio rack in PT 10?

Yes, it is. You have to uninstall, then use the offline 9.6 installer and you cannot use any plugins after 9.91 was released (just Smack Attack, so far).

So they will work in the studio rack this is what is intended ? And thing after 9.91? I don't see their instruments such as the synths ? I'm only seeing the main processing plugins .. what's the reason behind the studio rack only?

Thanks for the heads up

I don't need the studio rack in PT10.3.1 or PT11.3.2.

I too went through what the op went through when I got C6 a couple of weeks back. Because I purchased through Waves themselves it was already entered into their system so all I had to do was to install it and move the license asset to my computer. I used the existing 'updated' WC to go online and move the license asset to my computer. I then disconnected from the 'net and used the offline installer to do the C6 install. So now I'm good to go.

It's simpler than that. RTAS/PT 32-bit is removed 100% with 9.91. The fact that you can still access plugins through Studio Rack is just a bonus—I wouldn't bank on it working indefinitely.

StudioRack doesn't support VIs.

I don't fault Waves for dropping RTAS, but it sure would have been nice if the last version BEFORE THIS RELEASE said it would be the last version that would contain RTAS, 32-bit versions of Pro Tools support, and allow installation on Mountain Lion and Mavericks, though.

They have an offline installer available.

That's already been mentioned (legacy installer in post 1). What's also been (or should have been) mentioned is that offline installer will not ever be updated to include new plugins.

Hmm strange i thought i uninstalled previous versions so im quite confused! So im guessing there is no way to run 9.6 independently for my 32 Bit PT10, and stay current for my VST and PT11?

Not in the same boot partition.

Now I don't know where all the tentacles for the Waveshell are or go to; what I'm wondering if it would work is to save a copy of the 9.6 version to a thumb drive or memory card and the 9.91 version to another drive/card and swap them in and out as necessary? Kind of a hassle but if it works
