My subscriptions are perpetual. Are most of the Pro Tools plans not???

If I stop paying, I stop getting new updates, but I still get to use the program at the level that I paid through. But one thing that I know is that you had better save your downloads because you won't have new access to the installers. If your system drive crashes you are SOL if you don't have a clone, or the installer.

Which raises a question (I'm on perpetual 10/11/12 as well): how long is Avid obligated to provide access to those installers? I'm not sure that was discussed in the purchase agreement.

Good question, which is why I download and store every installer to an external hard drive

I do the same, and highly recommend it.

The subscription model forces us to consider: are we getting a 'product' or a 'service' for our cash? Seems this and similar practices fall in the middle, with the purest form of subscription being not any different than the cable TV or electric bill…

I'm not sure this is gonna be good for anyone, company or consumers. In the end, no one actually has anything tangible for their time and money.

I just watched the video and being that I am fed up with PT's and all it's problems, (well I admit that a lot of the problems are due to my under equipped pc and my own short comings), I am ready to switch and the video of the Sonar/Cakewalk DAW has perked my interest. I hope they have an introductory offer and Windows 7 won't be an issue. Craig Andeton is the guy that got me going on this with his "Home Recording For Musicians" book years ago. Man, what a genius!

Call me obsessive but I have mine saved off to two separate hard drives and dual layer dvd's so they're in three different places.

I don't see where he couldn't have just been describing a Pro Tools support plan. Upgrades in fact are a service.
