Default Stomp boxes in Israel

I know that this is not exactly a Pro Tools post, but if anyone knows this , please let me know. I'm leaving for Jerusalem in a couple of weeks for an international orchestra date, and I'm trying to decide what gear to take to enhance the rig I'll be playing through. If any of you guys have ever played in the Middle East, you know that it's kinda of a crap game as to what the quality of the sound company will be.

I will take my trusty Sans Amp bass DI /preamp, and this old DBX 163A (overeasy) that by the way, sounds killer on bass and vocals.

I have all the transformers and converters to cover the voltage difference, but here is my question.

If I use the Sans Amp DI with no AC,with only the battery, with or without phantom power, will I fry the circuitry in the Sans Amp? I've fried hair dryers, coffee pots, etc.,over there but I would hate to fry little "Sans-boy". Anybody??

Oh yeah, please say a prayer for me. I definitely want to return to our lovely land.

Thanks!!

Kenny

On the battery I can't see too much going wrong.

As with all things electrical check things before you plug in.

Good Luck

As a sound enginner (Studio not PA) in Israel here is the basic PA companies equipment:

- Unskilled Soundmen. (with "middle eastern" temper, or in plain english - Unfriendly).
*there's some friendly ones.
- 24/32 ch consoles.
- some outboard effects, like DBX, Yamaha, lexi and all sort of weird stuff.
- Shures 58s/57s...
Sometimes some AKGs
Bad Shotguns condesners.
- Crawn Amps usually.
- Appoge or close PA systems with processors.
- Monitors on stage but except some exceptions or big performances there is no Monitor Soundman/Mixing.

If you'll tell me the company that takes the PA on your performance I'll know more. there's 2 major companies that knows the work and all the others pretty much - crap.

Bass amping is usually by di into console.
I suggest to you to use your chain and simple insert your sound after your o/b fx to the pa di.
usually passive one to console.

How to keep yourself alive:
- Today the most "explosive" city is Jerusalem as it's close to the occupied tertories.

Try using cars and no public transportaion
Do not walk in crowded places especially in jerusalem.
I still take those chances but hey I live here ;(.

Music/Sound Shops if you need strings, effects etc...

- Jerusalem: Look for a store called Effect.
They provide most of jerusalem audio/music solutions.
- Tel-Aviv: Klei-Zemer, Marom, Halilit.

Good Luck!
if you need anything keep in touch .

Hi Rock_Artist,

Thanks so much for you're insight!! It was great to see you're response to my post today. Especially since I thought my thread was dead!

Anyway, very cool!! I actually bought strings off of Ben-Yahuda before, but this year I will bring plenty of extras.

I am playing at the ICCJ :the International Conference Center of Jerusalem from 20 Sept to27 Sept. I am arriving 10 Sept, and will be staying at;
Yitzhak Rabin Guest House
1 Nahman Avigad Street
Jerusalem
We will be in rehearsal at the same address that I am staying at. If you get a chance, stop by, and we can talk Pro Tools or whatever.

RA, once again thanks for posting, it definitly made my day. Thank you DUC.

Kenny

If you want to visit one "neat" PT studio (not a big studio).

There is the Yellow Submarine in Jerusalem.
It's a PT based studio (switched from ADATs thanks god).

I've recorded some jazz session in there.
I really like the place for "liveness" feeling as it's actually a "club" so the ambience is cute.
I was there a few years ago so I have no clue what's going on.

Bon Voyage.
