Default Wierd behavior with lastest Core Audio Driver

Has anyone had Digi Core Audio just automatically launch(the blue "D" icon appears suddenly in the Dock)? It's happened twice to me so far and I wasn't running Pro Tools 6.4 TDM either times. Could this be a "bug"??

i think it's supposed to do that. when you launch an app that's looking to use digi's hardware it'll open up.

If you have anything (including the Finder) configured to play sound through your Digidesign hardware, the CoreAudio server will launch as soon as the program in question plays a sound.

There is also a "hide server" option so that even if it launches, it doesn't pop up in your face.

I've noticed the "Auto-quit manager when last client quits" option doesn't work.

Hi there,

A few notes about the new driver:

1. The manager app will automatically launch whenever a CoreAudio app attempts to start playing audio through our HW. If you have Digi HW set as your default output, then pretty much any app that wants to play a beep is going to launch the manager. If you want to limit how often the manager app gets launched, you can choose something other than Digi HW for your default output. Then the manager will only get launched when you explicitly choose Digi HW as your output device in, for example, Reason.

2. Try manually adding the manager to your Dock. Then you'll hardly notice when it comes and goes.

3. The only time the "Auto-quit" option won't work is if your Digi HW is not connected. In this case the manager app will remain open until you manually quit it.

4. The Finder is not allowed to use the driver, and will never cause the manager to be launched.

Let me know if there are any other issues or questions you have.

Thanks,
-Ted

I think I like version 6.4 better. I really like the menu where you can add or delete applications that use the driver. When I updated to 6.5, lots of applications want to use it that I would rather not have use it like Virtual PC and Office.

Hi Steve,

If you hold down the Shift key while launching an app, the app will not see our driver and won't launch the Manager app.

Note: You actually have to hold down the Shift key during the time when the app signs-in to CoreAudio. This may be at a different time than launch. For example, OSX Mail signs-in to CoreAudio when it first tries to play a sound, not when it launches, so you would have to hold the Shift key down right before it plays its first sound.

Hope this helps,
-Ted
