Default Can't get PT8.03 to launch correctly

I just upgraded my system from Leopard to Snow Leopard and I'm having some problems now.

I'm running 10.6.2 with Pro Tools 8.0.3 and now PT is very flaky. It takes at least 3 or 4 mins to actually load PTs if it does even load. I notice the firewire connection on my 002R going on and off. Sometimes it's on until I launch PTs and then it looses connection. Also for some reason the core.midiframework folder now shows up in the dock whenever I launch anything that uses midi.

Could this be plugin related? The only additional plugins I've installed are:

Omnisphere, Trillian, RMX by spectrasonics
Kontakt 4
Amplitube2

I don't even use those plugins in PT's. Can I just move them to the "unused" folder?

I just saw this in the console.

3/30/10 9:37:21 AM MIDIServer[28769] PlugIn DigidesignFireWireMIDI.plugin -- /Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers/ does not contain a supported architecture.

As i understand it, my setup should be supported on 10.6.2 right?

Some folks have experienced the 002/002R disconnecting after upgrading to SL and most of the time it is traced to a plugin that is not compatible with SL. A few others are seeing the common "power harness" issue show up but that may be coincidence. Very commonly, this is due to setting all the processors to be dedicated to realtime plugins in the playback engine. It is recommended to set the playback engine to use one less than the total number of processors cores (real or virtually hyperthreaded cores) you actually have.

Oh, the bouncing "CoreMIDIFramework" folder in the dock is a known problem. Hopefully there will be a fix sometime soon. Some folks delete the MIDI driver to stop the bouncing folder but it renders all MIDI functions on the Digi002/003 family of interfaces unusable.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've lowered my cpu usage by one and I've moved all but the Didi installed plugins and I'm still having problems. I can't get PTs to do anything quicker then show the progress bar AFTER waiting at least 3 mins and it sometimes it hangs towards the end when it's trying to connect with the 002R and it never fully launches. I had the power harness issue probably 2 years ago and replaced the harness. Is it possible it's gone bad again? I don't understand why SL would be affecting the power harness though. It hasn't been rock solid on leopard but it's been fairly solid for the last year or so.

Any other suggestions?

Try reseating the power harness anyways (scraping off the oxidation can't hurt). IT is actual surprising how many people have connections problems to their 002/002R after upgrading to PT8 and/or Snow Leopard. Often it is due to plugins or the playback engine/number of processor cores issue but it could be that the firewire drivers are different somehow.

Anyone with a similar setup experiencing the same thing? I've not seen anything on the forums so I guess maybe I'm the only one.

Is Snow Leopard solid for most?

Did you do an install of Snow Leopard over a current install of Leopard?

If so - that's likely the problem. You should go a clean install of Snow Leopard, then migrate your data over.

The symptoms you're describing sound very much like what we've seen in the case above.

One other thing to check - make sure that all plug-ins are up to date and that you have your audio drives set to private in the Spotlight system preference panel.

I'm having similar issues. Intel-based dual core MacPro tower, just upgraded to 8.0.3 & Snow Leopard.

I'm getting the coreMIDI folder on the dock as well.

I can open Pro Tools fine, but when I open it, my mouse will not interact with Pro Tools on the screen, just the menus - I cannot do anything with my mouse in the mix or edit windows.

Likewise, Pro Tools is not responding to my digi002 either.

The only control I have is with the space bar - it will still play & stop.

Is the reinstall of Snow Leopard the only answer here? I have to back everything up, reformat my drive & start from scratch?

Please tell me there is another answer.
