Default Move my PT soft from G4 to G5 any tips ??

Hi;
I'm gonna transfer my PT HD2 from a G4 to a G5 in a few days.
Any tips you can give for the softwae side.
Someone mentioned swapping the OS disk, but since my new baby has a Raptor 10000 rpm, I need to transfer it to this one.

You could use the Apple Migration Assistant but if you have the time and patience I think it is better to just start from scratch and install everything that you need. I think people have had a lot of luck using the Migration Assistant so you could always give that a try and if it didn't work you could just format the drive and start again.

I'd avoid doing that, install from scratch, it takes longer but it will save you the down time if something goes wrong.

What I would do is boot off of your OS install dsic on the G4, go to disk utility and make a disk image of your system drive to another drive (portable firewire drive would be easiest) Next boot your G5 off the install disc and then go to disk utility and restore that system drive image on your G5 system drive. The only thing you might have to do next is an archive and install of the actual OS to get the proper G5 drivers and whatnot. I've done this many times and it is perfect.

However, I enjoy starting from scratch every now and then to get rid of all the crap that seems to collect.

thanks for the tips , But I guess the mentioned disk image things won't work.
I'm upgrading from OS10.3.9 to Tiger at the same time .

It'll work, just use the tiger installer for the archive and install after restoring the image on the G5. And don't forget to repair permissions as the last step.

I would say install from scratch, also. I just did this btw.

One very important note, the drives you have in your G4 are not compatible with the G5; the connectors are different.
