Voice Allocation Rules
Fully understand the rules concerning tracks, priorities and voices but don't have an explanation of the rules governing the allocation of multiple tracks to one voice. In a new session I can allocate 43 tracks to the same voice. Obviously only one at a time will be heard. But what is governing this? This becomes an issue for me when I have very large 64 voice sessions, less than 128 tracks and sometimes protools won't allow me to allocate a new track to a previously allocated voice which has already been used a few times. Anyone got an explanation?

Re: Voice Allocation Rules
The track to the furthest left in the Mix window (or highest up in the Edit window) gets priority. If there's a blank space in it, the next track to the right (or down in Edit) gets the voice. Etc. etc.
By dragging your tracks around, you can set up your priority. Got it? -DC |

Re: Voice Allocation Rules
Think I wasn't clear enough or you misunderstood David. I understand the priority issues, I was asking what governs the total amount of tracks allowed to be assigned the same voice. 43 is not 32 or 64 or 128. Academic question but curious.
