Making Imported MIDI Tracks Make Sound
Hello Everyone:
New to the forums here, as well as ProTools, so go easy on me please. My apologies if this is out of place. If it is, please let me know where I should be posting. I've imported some midi tracks into ProTools, including both piano and drum based midi, but I'm having trouble with hearing the sound. Both tracks register a level in the level meter when I set the input to DigiDesgnMBx2 and the output to either DigiDesign MBox2 or Microsoft MIDI Mapper, but nothing is coming out of the speakers. Am using ProTools LE 6.8.1 under WinXP. Can anyone offer some suggestions on how to make it work, so I can hear it? Thanks, TC |

Re: Making Imported MIDI Tracks Make Sound
midi is just data, there is no sound. you will need to place an insert whether an external keyboard or v-drum Module ect... or a VI plugin in Pro Tools to receive that midi info thereby triggering the sound.

How do I do that insertion? I was planning to use soft synths and soft drum kits, as I have a few of them, but I dont know how to get them to work in PTools. When I bought the MBox2 and ProTools LE - it came with an ignition pack that I think has a bunch of different synths on it, but I dont know how to get them into ProTools to use them and get them to make any sound. Thanks again, TC |

Re: Making Imported MIDI Tracks Make Sound
Got it. :) Forgot I had to set the instruments up in an Auxiliary Track...
But still I only was able to use the synths that came with ProTools. Cakewalk has a nice Eiderol Synth I'd like to use, but I dont know how I would get it into ProTools. It doesnt show up anywhere inside ProTools. ? |

Re: Making Imported MIDI Tracks Make Sound
You can just use an instrument track. It's a combination of a midi track and auxillary track. Create one (mono or stereo), copy the midi info to that track, insert any software synth or drum kit, and you're good to go.
Assuming you installed the stuff from the ignition pack, they should show up under instruments, along with the built in instruments of Protools. You can use Protools instruments, 3rd party instruments, but you won't be able to use instruments that are part of other DAW's, like the instruments in Cakewalk or Logic, etc. |
