Default MacPro 4.1 4core 2.93 for PT11

Would this computer handle PT11? Currently still on Snow Leopard with PT9 and would like to move up if this mac can do it. I have Yosemite on a drive so I can use that. Would PT10 be a better choice?

How would anybody here know? We have no idea of the full specs (memory, disk, etc.) and any clue what you want to do with it. You could be recording 4 tracks in your bedroom or trying to handle a 400 track orchestral composition.

There is no reason to go to Pro Tools 10, unless you need say RTAS support. Just make sure you have enough DRAM, a minimum of 16MB.

Personally I would get that motherboard flashed up to 5.1, a larger CPU installed, maxed out DIMMS, a metal compatible GPU, upgrade to Mojave, and install PCIe/NVMe storage including boot disk, and the latest Pro Tools. 2019.12. Realizing you may never move beyond Mojave. Lots of past discussion on DUC about all those options.

Pro Tools 11 and 12 suffered from lots of AAX performance bugs only fixed in 2019 releases. Pro Tools 12.6 and later added disk cache support which can be a big help. You have to make sure you can get all plugins you need on the new version of Pro Tools, this includes Avid Provided Plugins, not all of them made the migration to AAX.

It's been a while but I installed 11 on Mountain Lion and it was smoother and was more efficient on the CPU when comparing the same sessions running on v10. I remember it because I was the guinea pig out of our group of guys who was the first to install and tried it out back then. I do remember downgrading from 11.3.2 to 11.3.1 because it ran better IMO. When v12 was release I upgraded to the HD version.

I'm on a 12core 2010 and my friends ran it on 2009's with no issues but they were also running 12core machines.
