i just cant imaging upgrading from such a stable setup. For what, to have to send my piece back to digi to fix the power thingy, no way. I will use the 001 till it dies as well.

If I recall correctly, there was big word of in his thread of buying a 754 chip system. Of course, to get a 939 system, wasnt much more... $30? $40? As a result, you could have had a dual core- ready system for nearly the same price. Even after the 754 was long dead, he was still shying away from them. Now, all those people who saved $40 will have to buy a whole new motherboard and chip, if they want to take afvantage of PT's features.

Re: Anyone still use a DIGI 001?
I picked up a DIGI 001 for $300 and I am using it in one PC and my trusty AMIII in another machine, both with PT LE 5.1.1. They are both really reliable and I can't foresee any upgrades except maybe to 6.4 on a used Mac G4. I got a Behringer ADA800 for the extra inputs and I can't complain about any of it.

welcome to the duc i am currently using a digi 001 running, pt 6.4cs9 with a dual core allenstein (asus a8n-sli premium mobo, athlon 64 4400+, 2 gig corsair ram - i can post the full spec if u need). i'm planning on buying a 002r in the near future so i can use pt7 but i thought i'd try the 001 to see if it worked. when i first installed the 001 i had a stack of 9129 and 9093 errors. very frustrating, anyway, i searched the digi answerbase and came up with this: DAE Errors 9092, 9093 or 9094 on Windows XP systems with dual core processors. These errors can be caused by problems with processor scheduling in dual core processors. The solution is to assign Pro Tools to run on a specific processor core. To do this: 1. Launch Pro Tools, but do not create or open a session. 2. Right click on the Task Bar and select 'Task Manager'. 3. Click on the Processes tab, then right-click on ProToolsLE.exe and select 'Set Affinity' from the drop down menu. 4. Uncheck the box for CPU 0. 5. Click OK and close the Task Manager. You will have to do this each time you launch Pro Tools unless you use and application like THG Task Assignment Tool. More info on the THG Task Assignment Tool can be found here: http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/20040528/index.html which so far is working sweet =) but its real early days yet, i've literally just rebooted from my music hardware profile after installing my 001 for a second time. i'm about to sort all the updates i need for my s/w (absynth and battery 2) and go finish the install, i'll post more when its been running for a few seesions. hope this helps tim

Re: Anyone still use a DIGI 001?
Still using 001. 002 offers nothing extra apart from 96khz and current pro tools versions.
I will wait for the 003 but if it does not offer some major ground with in & outs and maybe some processing power along the lines of TDM/HD I am going to consider moving to soundscape which has HD power at 2nd hand mix system prices. |

Re: Anyone still use a DIGI 001?
I'm happy I kept my Digi 001 because I can't stand the 002 Rack.
I used the Digi 002 Rack on both the Mac and the PC and it's been a complete disaster on both systems. I never had any trouble with my 001. The internal and external interfaces of the 001 were designed to work together. I'm not a fan of the firewire interface in general. I just want to be able to record without errors every 5 minutes. I'm going to sell my 002 and stick with the 001 until I see something better. |
