Except that they sell the trashcan that is still essentially the same as in late 2013 which means all those old OS are compatible if you choose to use them.

This is true, but why would you buy 2013 technology when you can get the latest processor and Ram with the latest SSDs and TB3? TB3 is a game changer. It literally has allowed me to get HDX level latency on a native rig. That pretty much makes HDX irrelevant. With this technology I was able to convert an original firewire Apollo into a TB3 beast. When you combine that with a DAW that was optimized for the latest iMac Pros running Mojave the answer is simple. Capt Kirk is right, time to move to another DAW if you need Mojave compatibility today.

Not giving up hope on 2019.5 though. I'm really hoping it is the answer to all our problems so guys like me can go back to using PTs. Of course that doesn't solve the other issue Capt Kirk mentioned and that is PTs it seems is always behind in updating to the latest Mac OS. This time however, I won't need OS compatibility right away since I can freeze my computer on Mojave if I choose. I have no problem being behind in the latest OS for a few months or so as long as PTs stays relatively on point with their updates. What is not an option for 2019.5 though is fixes to the CPU efficiency issues. As mentioned in an earlier post, as it is, PTs cannot run VIs efficiently with the latest CPUs. If they don't address the CPU problems in 2019.5 then staying on PTs is really not a viable option for some of us. The good news is all will be known soon enough in a couple of weeks.

That is also true, but why would you buy unsupported gera is supported is available and support is what you need? For some, that is a game changer.

If you are tied to PTs for professional reasons than yes, get the older generation Mac Pro. For us none Pros, it all comes down to using the best DAW and Audio Interface that meets our needs today. Again, I'm holding hope that 2019.5 is the answer to all our problems.

All of them? No. Some of them? Most likely. No software is ever bugfree so waiting for that you could go back to PT 8.1.1 & OSX 10.6.8 combo and still keep waiting for similar stability.

That is the reason I wrote current. a trashcan is no current mac and easily outperformed even by a recent mac mini.

Totally true, freeze or migrate to Windows

Every single year it’s going to be an issue (has been anyway)

The 2018 Mac mini i7 kills the 12 core 2013 Mac Pro in single cpu performance but falls a little behind the 12 core in multi-core.
