Recording from multiple interfaces
In PT9 we got the option to record from multiple interfaces... I have not tried it my self, only read about it.
My current situation is that I have an HD Native with an omni interface and an octopre. This gives me 8 input channels, but when tracking drums i would love a few more. I have an avid mbox pro (mbox 3) laying around, would it be possible to record from both the omni and mbox at the same time? I don't care about latency, as it's only for tracking drums. |

Re: Recording from multiple interfaces
If you connect the Omni and Octo together via SPDIF you will have 14 channels. 8 on the Octo and 6 on the Omni.
As far as I know, you can't daisychain with SPDIF though. That would be your limit. |

Re: Recording from multiple interfaces
You cannot do this with HD Native (or HDX, or any HD system). They will not work with the aggregate audio function of the Mac. That only works with regular Protools native systems. And not all interfaces support it. For example, the 002/003 do not.
With HD Native, if you want more I/O, your only choice is to get one of the HD IO's. You can't even use another Omni, as you can only have one Omni hooked up to an HD system. And to be clear, the Omni is only a max of 8 in, 8 out, regardless of what combination of digital or analog you're using. |

Re: Recording from multiple interfaces
Thanks nst7, that was what I was afraid of.
And yes, the omni is only 8 in and 8 out. |

Re: Recording from multiple interfaces
Exactly why I won't buy one. Best to either trade up to an HD IO (8x8x8) as that would allow you to have a full 16 with your Octopre. Another route would be to buy a used 96IO. That would daisy-chain off the Omni, allow the Octopre on the 96IO lightpipe, plus you would also have 8 more analog IO on the 96IO. As long as your "money" channels come in thru the Omni or Octopre, you won't suffer the lesser converters of the 96IO(leave those inputs for less important duties such as talkback mic or hardware effect returns). Used 96IO's are around $500 which makes it a decent investment in my view
