M Box 3 Educational Discount?

So I've been looking for an interface and the sound of the M box is (obviously) great. But its a tad out of my price range, then it dawned on me that AVID has student discounts.

I have the Pro Tools 10/11 student bundle already. Every Mbox student discount I can find through google comes with Pro Tools 11 which I don't need.

Is there anyway to utilize the student discount for an M Box without having the price for Pro Tools bundled in with it?

While we're on the topic, any competing interfaces you guys are fans of?(for cheaper though, If the price is the same Im going with AVID hands down)

Not a lot of immediate need for recording with mics/guitar/ etc..but I am not going to write it off when considering an interface because at a point I will need to be able to do that without worrying about my interface.

Take a look at Focusrite and MOTU - they have some excellent interfaces that aren't too expensive.

the 2i2 was a cheaper alternative but then I heard lots of people end up clipping it with electric guitar. Thats all forum talk though so who knows. Until then I had heard good things about Focusrite.

Probably clipping because they were overdriving the input of the unit with either active pickups or a bunch of stompboxes in front of it. Use the proper cabling, learn to adjust the controls and don't overdrive the input and things will work okay. Even the best interfaces can clip if you overdrive the inputs.
