I've actually heard of a technique (but never tried it) where you send the drums to an aux buss with a compressor that really pumps, and slowly bring up the levels until you get a good blend between the 2. Sounds like an interesting idea but I've never tried it.

Hi,

All the time. Like if I want to compress a group of BVs or a group of rythm guitars. Many different scenarios. Just in the same way we would Buss and compress/ EQ different groups on an old 8 buss analogue desk.

Best regards,

Big D

Yes, I do it and am happy with the results. It does reduce CPU drain.

I used to buss all my drums to a stereo AUX track and use a separate compressor and EQ on it. It sounds good if done correctly. I tend to just do the toms now but depends on the drummer...

Not a bad technique though. I would use EQ and compression on the drums individual tracks, then pipe it to a AUX track that had a tad more compression and use that 1 fader as an overall level. Submixing.... that way you get your individual drum levels, hide them and only rely on that one fader to control the drums.

Hope that this helps?

thanks for the replies i thought for a bit i was alone on this......i started doing this out of frustration of pegging my cpu all the time and this definetly helps in that regard.....ive been setting up several aux busses and using one for drums and one for vocals and one for guitars etc....its also all nondestructive so your not commited to nothing like you are with processing and printing regions which i found to be alot of guesswork.....it aint as cool as it would be to be able to use all seperate plug ins but for my pc i thik its a neccessity.....check it out if you aint tried it maybe youll like it.......chas
