I believe they updated the buttons and the new ones feel better than the original run. The Avid guy came by a couple of days ago to check it out and help with any install issues, and he said the new buttons feel better. They feel fine to me. :)

Re instantiating plugins, you can't do it currently but apparently it is coming soon. You can of course access any plugins that are already instantiated on the channel, but you can't insert new plugins yet from the surface, with the exception of the default EQ and Compressor that you have set in your preferences. These are automatically inserted if they are not already present by pressing the EQ or DYN buttons on each channel strip. For any other plugins, it's still the mouse at this point.

:)

That's a relief. The demo I looked at had mushy keys. No 'click'. I'm glad they fix that.

You should post some photos to show it off!

Might be the demo it self that had been used too much?

I suppose that is possible, but this shop doesn't get a lot of foot traffic, so not a lot of hands on it. Also, all of the buttons on the automation module were equally mushy. If it were a result of wear, I'd assume some would be worse than others.

I'll have to ask a friend at Avid to confirm that.

If buttons "wear out" on a demo machine (especially for a product as new as S6) then they spec'ed the wrong button IMO.

Absolutely. And I'm sure this is not the case.

As the OP says, the buttons in his feel great, so this sounds like a non-issue. We can stop high jacking this thread.

Speaking of which, let's see some pics of your S6!

Here we go, it's just on a temporary table at the moment, need to get a custom desk made for it. :)

Yes you can insert the favourite EQ and DYN plugins from the surface, but that is all at this point.

The buttons issue doesn't surprise me. Back in 98 we bought a six figure console from a major manufacturer with a huge reputation, and found the automation and attention buttons becoming unreliable within a month. Compare to a similar priced console from another company which after 14 years still has all buttons functional, with major use.

You always get the occasional "Friday Afternoon" job. It's up to the manufacturer to either have the QC to catch them or good customer service to deal with it.

My impression from what the Avid rep said is that they wanted to improve the original buttons on the first models, and so they replaced them with a different part. I could be wrong of course.
