Default Vocal comping

What is your, or the best approach in le? When I'm in front of a hd I use the method which gives the same voicing to multiple tracks.
So what is the best way to do this in le?

Tamas,

I think all of us have a slightly different approach doing that..however the question is very logical, and IIRC it was discussed here before.
I usually track vocal takes onto different playlists, and when it's time to comp I'd make a new track called "Vox Comp".
Then...listening phrase by phrase (on the playlists) I pull down the "keepers" to the destination track.
On the last top to bottom listen I mark the questionable spots and try to grab stuff from other parts of the song, if available. After that...smoothing by little nudges and fades, and final processing.
Consolidate.

best of luck,
andras

Thank you. It seems a very usable method.

This is a video package that is very good in a lot of ways. It has a lot of cool tips and tricks that may open some doors.

Not hyping it up for Kenny, but it is pretty cool.

And has vocal comping in detail.

Kennys videos are good.

This is how I comp vocals:

* I usually loop record or record so that each take is exactly the same length. This makes life easier.
* I then drag each take onto a separate track and preview them by muting/unmuting.
* Drag the best take to the original track.
* Sometimes I color the takes (often verse by verse as I'm not a fan of changing just a syllable or a word). This can be helpful when you get back to the session a few days later to quickly find takes that works well.

With that said, I would like to see better comping options in Pro Tools.

In HD I'll use the "voicing method". In PT LE I will use REAPER for comping tracks and midi to audio rendering etc. It has a very similar approach to Logic 8. I then drag the final comp into the PT arrange window. There's nothing wrong with using other tools to get the job done.

Thanks I have this and love it, but vocal comping is for hd as it assigns the same voice to multiple channels. It is not possible in le.
