Ah HAH! Just as I suspected! Excellent!

Hey Lemix and others, good news, I finally solved the problem: I still couldn't find the Adaptec 4300, so I decided to give the VIA FW a try, for the 24 US not a big deal (actually, brand name is Flexy, chipset is VIA) and... everything now works like a charm! Recording, playback, editing, loads and loads of plugins, all with a HW of 256 samples, 65% CPU, Level 2 buffer, and Outlook, MSN Messenger, Yahoo messenger, NAV, the Ethernet connected with my DSL modem, all running together, no problem whatsoever!
DIGI should add this VIA FW chipset to the list of working ones I guess: 24 US well spent! (I was also considering building a dedicated computer for my audio stuff, but this little card saved me the bucks and the trouble...). Now, I am celebrating with a Guinness and a cigar too

Thank you to all that wrote and helped!

yep, right on the spot... I am actually glad it worked with such little hassle (and little money). I wonder, though, why it shouldn't work with the onboard thing, or to put it better, why shouldn't mobo engineer be able to stick a totally compatible and totally working FW in the mobo? the technology (protocols) is the same, the OHCI compliant drivers are the same, eventually the onboard one should be communicating better with the system overall (not relying on a PCI bus), but it's not so...

That DAT is 16-bit so your session has to be 16-bit to sync properly.
A2D D2A ,

Hmmm...with all due respect, I must disagree on both...
You can record 16 bit audio into a 24bit session, no problem...
Bit depth has nothing to do with syncing...

cheers,
Maybe you're right, but I have had 2 Tascam DA-20 and both acted strange or gave a thinner sound if I didn't record it into a 16-bit then import the file.
