Wow, such a deal...... for all of the 2% of users out there that qualify for this magnanimous offer!! When are the old school corporate fogeys that have taken over the former DIGIDESIGN going to realize that the world has moved on from the way old economic model? Guess what, the notion that if you have a diminishing number of customers for a product at a particular price point can be fixed by raising the price of the same product and expecting that the fewer customers, at the new price point, will make up the difference in revenue is something that doesn't work even in third world countries.

Of course it's easy to complain outside of the corporate boardroom but, how about the notion that an awareness of real world economic conditions, resulting in fair pricing policies, would benefit the company and it's customer base equally.

I took a snapshot of Avid's site in hopes that they won't change their mind on the free upgrade to 10 if you register PTHD 9 after October 1.

Here is a link from a screen shot of their exact wording.

Great, you qualify for a twenty day grace period if you happen to be lucky. If not then.... I don't know.......fill in the blanks.

I Got to admit, $1K is a bit steep to cross from 9 HD to 10 HD for software only?
$499 would be feasable. 9HD Native is powerful enough to mix large 5.1 sessions all day. From the specs, yes 10 is faster, nice to have clip gain (but have been riding faders with in regions since the late 90's with no issues). The new fade fucntion, yes it's great feature but %99.99 make fades subconciously all this time, and if you open a session and some fades are missing, just have PT remake them and wait a min or so, it' not like that happens every time the same session is opened. 10 does sound amazing and HUGE leap. But for those on 9HD on macpro 8/12 core systems running native meeting all the specs for harddrives and stripped down macpro, 1K doesn't really warrant it for the difference for me at least.

Max Gutnik from Avid has mentioned the $599 support plan for HD or HD Native users that would give free upgrades for the next couple of years as a way to get this cheaper. I think it's a new program they introduced tonight as well, and I can't find any details on it.

I agree $999 is a crazy price for just the software upgrade. Not right in my opinion. Seems like a mistake. Oh well. . .

Think I'll just upgrade to 10HD and stay at that it would cost me a fortune to update all plug to AAX and trade in my old system

My HD3 is doing me fine!
