Default Audio clock error

Hi, I am posting from an ipad and my pc from which I mix and record is offline so I am unable to give the recommended hardware specs.

I have been using pro tools 8.3 cs2 in conjunction with a 003 for about 2 years without incident. I woke up this morning and got ready to finalize a mix and got an error message saying problem detected with audio clock, check your clock source and sample rate. I have changed literally nothing between yesterday and today. From checking out other threads this appears to be a common problem for people getting set up but I don't see anyone posting about a working setup experiencing this problem.

Is your computer seeing the 003? Is the correct sample rate light on the 003 lit up? Did you try opening another session? Did you check the clock source and sample rate?

The pc must be seeing the 003 because I can open a session in the first place. I have tried a few different ones with no luck. I also tried switching to 1 processor. As far as lights go none of them are lit up except the monitor mute. The host light blinks sometimes.

How do I check the source?

I don't have my pro tools computer up right now, but there is a setting that allows PT to use it's internal clock as the source, or you can specify an external clock as the master (such as an external analog to digital converter/mic preamp). I am using a digi 002 rack unit, and as soon as i open pro tools, I believe it remembers the sample rate from the last session and the corresponding light comes on (44.1, 48, etc). Then once you open a session, the correct light for that session sample rate comes on.

It sounds to me that since none of your lights come on, PT may think there is an external device as the master clock. Hopefully someone with more expertise than me can chime in and help.

Hmm, maybe my computer didn't shut down correctly and some setting got tweaked? If anyone has suggestions that would be cool... I'm over deadline as is.

Old issue with the 003

Many of us thinks that the Driver could be the culprit !

I have my PT computer on now and can confirm several things. When I first power up my digi 002 rack, the 44.1 sample rate lights up. Next open PT, then open a session. Go to setup, then hardware. Under Peripherals you should see your digi 003. Under Clock Source, make sure it is set to Internal. The session sample rate is also shown on this screen. If you are not seeing the digi 003 under peripherals, or cannot set the clock source to internal, I would reinstall the driver for the 003. Perhaps try a different firewire port on the back of your computer. Good luck.

I checked it and its set to internal, and the sample rate appears to be correct. Do I just need to reinstall the whole set up or is there a possibility the 003 is having hardware issues? And if it is can these things be repaired?

I forget if I mentioned it but the host light is blinking. I have been reading a little on the forums and this generally results in a failure to launch a session. What could the blinking light mean in regards to the audio clock?

By the host light blinking, do you mean the light that says 1394, which is the firewire connection? If it is like the digi 002, this light should be on solid. There is a self test mode for the unit (hit the F1 utility button near the transport buttons), and then the various buttons along the top right under the display, but I think this just tests faders, lights, etc. I don't know if you can just reinstall the drivers for the 003 or if you need to reinstall PT. I use Acronis True Image to back up my system drive from time to time. That way if I have a glitch, I can restore back to that point without having to reinstall any programs.
