Meshuggah! They've always provided some wonderful explorations of polyrhythmic playing etc... However, the biggest turnoff for me with their music has always been their singer, and that style of singing or should I say bellowing! Oh well, to each their own!

Are you talking about the cookie monster vocals . Yeah, I can only take it in small doses myself. But the music is just so ... <insert masculine metaphor>. And I'm quite new to hearing polyrhythmic music so this stuff sounds incredible to me. And for some songs the cookie monster vox are warranted.

Sometimes, I wish these types of metal bands would release the song sans vocals. Yes, I know, there will be calls for me to be burnt at the stake now.

Ooops, I 've gotta go and hide and quickly .

Im the opposite, I can't stand clean vocals on metal music - unless the singer is a chick. It's ok if its sporadic and not following the formula of many emo-metal bands; like dirty verse, then into this huge clean harmonized chorus where they say how they will be alright if they just keep believing in themselves (i wish there was a vomit emote)
