Default Assigning individual MIDI channels with Kontakt

Happy Holidays, all!

I received the Garritan Personal Orchestra as a Christmas present yesterday. I'm using it as a RTAS plugin through Kontakt Player. The Kontakt Player allows up to eight instruments to be loaded at a time, each can be assigned to it's own MIDI channel. Here is the problem:

I don't seem to have the option of specifying an individual MIDI channel when selecting the Garritan Personal Orchestra on a Pro Tools MIDI track. When I activate the MIDI output dropdown box, I see the option 'Garritan Personal Orchestra 1' but it doesn't allow an individual channel to be selected. The MIDI data is always routed to channel one. All the other MIDI routing options within the dropdown have an arrow on the right-hand side that, when hovered-over, offer a list of 16 individual MIDI channels for that device. Am I missing something?

Thanks,

Default Re: Assigning individual MIDI channels with Kontakt

Kontakt RTAS requires multiple instances of Kontakt to be inserted on separate tracks. Each inserted instance on each aux track will create another midi channel which corresponds only to the instantiated Kontakt insert. In other words, Make an aux track, insert Kontakt. Create a midi track and you will have Kontakt midi channel 1 which related to this instance on the aux. For instrument 2, do the same thing, only now the Kontakt midi channel 2 relates to the 2nd instance of Kontakt.

The Kontakt engine uses very little CPU overhead so you are not terribly penalized. I ran 8 instances of Kontakt with no instruments loaded, and it used almost the same amount of CPU.

To use multiple MIDI channels.. and improve your timing.. use the FXpansion VST->RTAS wrapper.

Be aware tho' I think there may be a bug with the VST version of Kontakt which distorts one side of the triggered sample.
