Default Computer-y Text to Speech options for television use?

Client has a talking appliance gag in a show, and they temped in a assistant doing a robotic-esque read. Loop group didn't do an adequate job of matching the clipped cadence, so I'm trying to find a solution.

They really liked the "ALEX" voice from the apple text to speech engine, however the terms of use for OSX pretty clearly spell out that using that voice is for non-commercial use only... so putting it in a network show seems like asking for trouble.

Is there other decent tools for generating synthesized voices that allow commercial use? I found a website or two, most of them are pretty smooth; too modern and not quite robotic enough.

Was just looking into this for a project yesterday :)

I found this site where you can buy basically by the word. $20 for 4 "prompts" (30 words each) and they are cleared for commercial use.

Speakerphone also has some wonderful resynthesis options. Can't remember the name of the algorithm in the plug-in, but it's definitely worth hearing.

Sonic Charge's Bitspeek plugin would be another good option
