Yep exactly they created the extras, they (pace's computer) should have flagged those licenses when someone tried to sell them. Some safeguard against piracy huh? It takes a year later for them to discover they are incompetent.

If I were a dev I wouldn't have a warm fuzzy about the whole pace Eco system

“When updating your plugins to V9 your V7\V8 licenses will stay on your iLok key as a complimentary. However if you wish you can delete them.”

I am willing to forward this email to DTS for authentication, if required.

I agree to sell you a guitar.

Dave has no idea how I came to be in possession of the guitar.

You pick up the guitar from Dave.

If it turns out the guitar is stolen and the police confiscate it, you believe Dave should somehow be responsible for your loss?
The ONLY way to get a license into my ilok account is through ilok. They know exactly where it came from. It is their purpose to police these actions! They are not my "freind" - I am their hostage! I have no other way to use ProTools for example!

Some entity, normally the developer (or their agent) for the initial sale, notifies Pace that a license has been issued to John Smith, and that the license should be added to John Smith's account. John Smith later notifies Pace that he has sold his license to Darby Wilson, and Pace "moves" the license to Darby Wilson's account.

As long as a "new" or "transfer" order comes in from a "proper" entity and follows an established protocol, Pace's only concern is with adding or moving the license...they have no obligation to determine the validity (or lack thereof) of the license or the transaction.

I doubt you'll find very many who follow your compass...
So we agree that any license comes into existence because either the developer notifies PACE or the buyer redeems a developers code that - notifies PACE.

So we agree that PACE has a record of where every license came from.

So PACE full well knows who has the right to transfer one.

When they execute this transfer they ARE validating that it is a valid license.

If this is not their function then what the heck is????????

They are the ONLY way to get and transfer these licenses - you bet I hold them responsible - to my "moral" compass. Legally - I actually care not. I am sure they have a legal right to do what they are doing. And since there is no way to use what I use without them - what does it matter what I think?

That's a pretty big smoking gun right there. If iLok removed these licenses against the policy that Waves themselves established, then iLok is in error and needs to come clean. Not to mention, since Waves does not use iLok anymore, how does iLok know that the previous versions in their system were deprecated in the first place?

They won't of course because they have a monopoly on this plugin ecosystem and don't want to let it go. Avid needs to start looking for an alternate authentication system.

Happy to try and help as much as we are able, but please understand you are talking about Waves licenses which are beyond the control of Avid. If Waves policy is that you get to keep your previous licenses when upgrading and your licenses were removed, then you should contact Waves about this and ask them to resolve it.

To anyone that legitimately purchased an Avid license that had that license removed, please contact us with your details and we will do our best to try and resolve this.

Thanks,
JC

I posted the Waves info for those seeking clarification - my old Waves v8 licenses have not been removed.

Just synced my iLok as requested by iLok email (knowing the consequences).

iLok have removed ReVibe and Impact - both of which I paid for.
Just for the record: I feel obliged to follow this all the way to the end, until iLok return my licenses.

Thanks for your help!

I'd also like you to clarify this with iLok:

We’re Allowed to Buy and Sell Used Plug-Ins - it's condoned here:

http://www.avid.com/US/support/transfer/audio

JUL 11 13 - Registration of Plug-Ins and Optional Software Not Transferable

Transfer of iLok authorizations by buyers and sellers can be done at www.iLok.com - Avid will not transfer product registration for used plug-ins

If you couldn’t sell and transfer your iLok authorizations, it would not be allowed on Avid's Buy & Sell page:

http://duc.avid.com/forumdisplay.php?f=12

I relied on iLok to verify authenticity before transferring a license to me.
If iLok expects me to do this, iLok should give me the tools and the Manual.

From iLok site:
Heartbleed
We are happy to report that iLok.com, iLok License Manager, and our license activation services were not affected by the Heartbleed vulnerability. Your iLok account information has and will remain safe. We always recommend careful management of all passwords, including choosing strong passwords and changing them regularly.

English is not my native language. But is it a proper sentence?
Should it be like "Your iLok account information is and will remain safe"?
But maybe I'm wrong

I'm positive that this is ilok's responsibility.
They sat me back 450$ on the crane song phoenix 2 license they removed from my account....not even talking about loosing business hours and the hassle of recreating sounds I already spent hours mixing....
This debacle is absurd!

The sentence should actually read: "Your iLok account information has been, is and will remain safe" That way they'd legally cover themselves for the past, present and future.
