PRo Tools 8 won't launch!
Im running a 4 processor Mac Pro with OS 10.5.5, waves 6, reason 4, Spectrasonics Stylus RMX (latest version) and all my other plug ins are up to date.
I installed PT 8 and the thing will not launch. Gets through all the plug ins then quits. I get the "Pro Tools has unexpectedly quit, would you like to relaunch?" message. Any ideas on where to start? |

Re: PRo Tools 8 won't launch!
Remove all plugins except the one's that get installed with PT8! now see if it loads. then try replacing plugs back in one at a time!
This is a new install? as it ever loaded and worked? trash the prefs is the next thing to try! if above does not help. Did you install 10.5.5 from the combo updater? not the incremental automatic updates!!. Latest pace drivers installed? Chris

This is a new install for PT 8 yes, but PT 7.4 with the latest CS was working fine on 10.4.11. Definitely doing a big upgrade all at once. The 10.5.5 was the combo update from the Digi site. And yes I have the latest Pace Drivers. Thanks for the help I will try what you suggested |

Re: PRo Tools 8 won't launch!
Here is what fixed it for me!!! I was very happy that it was something simple. Apparently, there are a couple of plug ins that come with the Pro Tools 8 HD software upgrade, and they somehow got included on the PT 8 LE upgrade. They prohibit PT 8 LE from booting up all the way.
The tech support fellow that I spoke to at digidesign had me do the following: Click on Macintosh HD (or open it in finder) and delete the following files in the following location: Macintosh HD/library/application support/digidesign/plug ins In this folder delete the "stereo mixer" and the "surround (something or other)" plug ins. They are HD plug ins, so you wouldn't be able to use them in LE anyway and they shouldn't have been there to begin with. After having me delete them and, of course, empty the trash, I no longer had PT "quit unexpectedly" on boot up. I finally reached my activation input box, and loaded into PT 8. If this doesn't work, then look for the last plugin you see loading before the "quit unexpectedly" and delete it from the folder as well. You can always get them back by re-installing. Hope this helps. FYI, my system is a Mac Book Pro with 10.5.8 and Digi 002 |
