If it sounds fine when you playback from pro tools, then it's your export. when you export to disc you can choose a few options

You need to check that your outputs are set at analog 1/2
that you select WAV and stereo or mono (you decide)
and that you select the audio specs you need, like 44.1/24bit.

If it still sounds like crap, then maybe you have plugins on the tracks that are affecting the audio, or the volume automation is low and it's affecting the bounce.

If that's not the issue, then your playback environment (cd player) is bad, or your recording just sounds bad in the first place.

Practice is what you need to do, I'm assuming your using M-Powered Essential? not sure what plug in's come with that but I'm sure it must have a compressor, Reverb or delay those 3 will get you going, though I wouldnt advise using reverb and delay together on vocals (unless your after that kind of texture)

Try using the mic differently, are you too close to it, too far away from it when recording? once you find out how to use the mic half of your problems might be solved.

Check out some videos on youtube or go to the AIRusers blog, some really handy videos up on that site too.

Good luck!!

Man, you might want to read up on Mixing and Mastering. Songs need to be Mixed before you can Master. Mastering is an Art in its self. Like I can Mix a song but I would never try or even consider trying to Master one of my songs I would leave that up to a Professional Mastering House. I would check out some of the Videos on the Air Users Blog www.airusersblog.com and videos on YouTube www.youtube.com on Mixing then start to think about what Mastering realy is.
