Default How Many successful ebay Experiences?

In the studio biz for almost 20 years. We've had some great experiences finding homes for old gear.

A few years ago sold 6-10K worth of purchases through auction site: Digibid. this worked great as the auction company would moderate and hold all the funds until the purchase approved of the condition of the gear.

I have been fascinated by ebay many times and know a few colleagues that swear by it.

I just registered with them in the last few days and bid on a pro-control and have been watching a control 24. Had a few conversations with the owners.

Just looking for some opinions on this method of purchasing.

My CPA told me a few weeks ago that I needed to get rid of a little bit of $ by Jan 1st, so we are looking at replacing the old analog large format dinosour with a large control surface that has some 'wow' factor.

All the Digi retail sources are out of the C24 backordered till next year (not too many used ones around) and the PRO Control is said to be on the way out by a couple sales reps! ?

Thanks guys,
Mike

1. Check Feedback.
2. Check Feedback.
3. Check Feedback.

The eBay feedback system works. Check if the seller has 'seller feedback' not just buyer.
Make contact email and by phone if possible before you bid.
There are some reputable eBay sellers out there for Digi stuff and other high end recording gear. Many of them have retail stores and do eBay as added sales exposure. I've spent thousands of dollars on eBay. Several purchases over a thousand dollars. Some will end auction early if they can close with you over the phone. Some will not. There are secrets to winning the auction too without driving up the bid. There have been scams that have come up lately too, so beware.

Good luck and happy bidding!

Hi,

I just want to help give some validity to the previous post.

eBay FEEDBACK is the most effective tool available to shrink the communication gap on the internet for consumers. Not only does it descibe that seller's history, it can also give you the comfort of knowing that a clean feedback record is hard to attain so you KNOW that the seller will not put his record in jeopardy to cheat you...

Most of my studio gear came from eBay, even Digi and Waves stuff.

With pro audio people, never had a problem one; with consumer electronics, scam-artists!

Default Pro Control on the way out says sales reps??!

All the Digi retail sources are out of the C24 backordered till next year (not too many used ones around) and the PRO Control is said to be on the way out by a couple sales reps! ?

What do these guys know that the rest of us don't? I can't imagine Digi would be too happy with theses "reps".

I have a home system (LE) where everything came from eBay, including the G4. Also had a d24 system where everything came (and went) via eBay. Feedback is great, but always contact the seller directly and ask some basic tech questions about the hardware. If they can't answer the questions on a relatively technical scale, or if something in their reply makes you uncomfortable.... skip it.

Also, try to avoid auctions from abroad. I did by an 882 from Australia, but the contact I had with the seller and his feedback made me comfrotable. On other auctions, I passed up bidding due to the vagueness of replies to basic questions.

FWIW.

As for Dig knowing something we don't... I am hoping for a new surface at NAB. Icon is just too rich, but i'm attracted to the touch sensitive knobs. I'd love to see a C24 with better scribble strips (10 Characters?) and touch sensitive knobs.... better faders would be a plus! Oh yeah, I'd love to see an integrated stereo surround panner option (either Digi or 3rd party, that would have enough visual feedback to make oening the panner window on the screen unnec. I don't mind the non motorized aspect, but I would love for the knobs to have LCD displays to show values, with a large square display of some sort to show position. Trim mode to trim a pan move, or have it work like the current pan window where I could touch the joystick and it would immediately locate the "blob" that represents panner postion to wherever the stick was currently. I could always trim the move with the 3 knob approach, so the trim mode might be redundant.

Also FWIW.

I´M PRETTY NEW TO E-BAY (8 MONTHS) BUT BY MY EXPERIENCE I MUST SAY THAT IF YOU ACT WITH CAUTION, LEAVING IMPULSE BUYING ASIDE, YOU CAN GET SOME VERY GOOD BARGAINS NOT ONLY WITH DIGIDESIGN´S STUFF BUT ALSO WITH OTHER TOP NOTCH BRANDS LIKE MILLENIA MEDIA, AVALON, DPA OR NEUMANN.

AS FOR EBAY SELLERS OF DIGI STUFF, I RECOMMEND YOU TRYING WITH mannysmusic. I HAVE PURCHASED FROM THEM MANY HI DOLLAR EQUIPMENT AND I AM 100% SATISFIED. THE GUY THAT HANDLES THE EBAY SALES IS TIM BROWN, HE IS VERY HELPFUL.

FEEDBACK IS VERY IMPORTANT. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS CHECK IT OUT. NEVER BID ON AN ITEM FROM A SELLER WITH 0 VOTES OR THAT HAS JUST REGISTERED IN EBAY. 101 TIMES OUT OF 100 IT WOULD BE SCAM.

ALWAYS ASK FOR SERIAL NUMBERS AND DOUBLE CHECK THEM WITH DIGI IF POSSIBLE.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST: NEVER EVER PAY BY WESTERN UNION. TRUST ME. IT´S UNTRACEABLE AND YOU´LL NEVER GET YOUR MONEY BACK.
