Default Sound effect use Copyright issue?

Hey does anyone know if there are any issues with using sound effects from the usual round up of effects libraries in an iPhone or Android App?

As long as you bought the library, you shouldn't have a problem. That's what libraries are for.

With that said, most Sound Designers I know only use library FX as a base to process & mold/modify. Straight library pulls without any processing or layering is actually pretty rare.

If you found the FX from a free library online, you may need to look over their user agreement.

When in doubt, just make your own. It's much more satisfying that way.

Any library you bought should have a ridiculously lengthy user agreement stipulating how those sounds can be used. I wouldn't assume use in an 'application' for an iPhone is necessarily covered. A quick call to the company in question though should settle it.

Yeah, thats what i was thinking tim. A lot of these libraries are on the older side, and i don't know what their user liceneses cover. Also putting a sound in a film is very different than giving a user access to play a sound effect whenever they want in an app they buy...

If you mean the effects in an iPhone, many of those are in the library Apple supply with FCP and Logic. Including that damn klaxon alarm that is in every TV show ever, despite it being the very noise that wakes millions of people up every day.

no, i don't mean those, but thanks. I mean working with a developer and giving them sounds for an app they are creating.
