Default Real time fades in Pro Tools LE?

I thought I posted this a minute ago but it didn't seem to take.....so if this is a repeat i apologize.......

I just got my 002 and so far I have been able to figure most everything out that I need........however, I can't figure out the fade functions very well....or maybe it just isn't capable of doing what I thought it could do. I can figure how to do fades by selecting a region and opening the fades dialog.......but I can't figure out how to do realtime fades as you can in Sonar, Digital Performer, Nuendo....just about any other program. Is LE just not capable of this function? I will be really disappointed if this is the case.

Also, is there a way to create prefader volume/gain envelopes directly on individual audio clips or at least on individual tracks?...again, something Sonar has handled since it was created.

Any help will be much appreciated. I am new to Pro Tools and I'm still waiting to be impressed considering the amount of money this thing cost me. =)....that being said though, I am willing to give the program the old college try.

Dave

I believe you need to read the chapter on Automation in the Reference Manual... there's a link to the pDF file in the Help menu.

Yup, that's what you need to do alright, read the manual. silly huh, that you actually have to red and learn this stuff, cuz it's so darn hard to download that free manual, especially to learn about how to do such basic things as automation?
what a cruel world it is...

Hey come on Nick, chill out a bit.

The guy probably looked for "real time fades" and couldn't find it. Some programs have a different paradigm.

Yeah, agreed we, should all rtm at some stage too.

Best regards,

Haigbabe

Haha, yeah, I remember when I started out. And I actuallly have hair left!! I was learnin' PT's and Performer at the same time, 'took me about 2 months to figure out what a Chunk was (Performer)? You have to figure out the software's terminology and how to look things up, and of course we all know there's more than one way to get the same result. Fades are a perfect example - audio file fade or audio, aux or master track automation or plug-in automation. Sit down in front of an Avid or Flash or hell, another audio software package and then poke someone for not knowing what you know.

02190 is right though.
Step 1. Read the manual
Step 2. When your done, repeat step 1

And yes, this will create a feedback loop from your brain to your eyes, but it will ease over time.

I'll be nice and answer your question...
Short answer: No.
Semi-short answer:
There are no auto/realtime fades in Pro Tools LE.
You need to select and apply, or use manual automation breakpoints. No seperate clip functionality either, just by track.
You need a Pro Tools TDM system to get the auto fades.

wrong..

Automation Quick Start
Pro Tools provides many options for recording,
replacing, and editing automation data.
The basic steps for automation recording are:
• Enable the automation type that you want to
record (volume, pan, mute, send level, send
pan, send mute, or plug-in automation).
• Put the appropriate tracks in an automation
writing mode (Write, Touch, or Latch, or a
Trim mode).
• If you are automating a plug-in, enable the individual
plug-in controls to be automated.
• Automation Safe any plug-ins, outputs, or
sends that have existing automation data that
you want to protect from being overwritten.
• Begin playback to begin automation recording,
and adjust controls as needed. Pro Tools
remembers all moves performed on enabled
controls.
To edit automation once it has been recorded,
you can:
• Repeat the above steps to write new automation
over the previous data.
• Graphically edit the automation data in the
Edit window.
• Cut, copy, paste, or delete automation data

I wuld like to help u ..but its a bit to complex for me to explain in english

but.... Chapter 28: Automation in u ref. guide is what u want to read..

just like rail said
