Strange issue with button PLAY

Bumping this...

I spent the last week fighting this bug with 9.0.5 on a MBP (quad core 2.0 i7, 4GB RAM, OS 10.7, external fw800 for data) and discovered the "change playback engine" fix by accident before finding this thread.... what a mess...

I had to travel away from my TDM rig (still on PT8) during the closing stage of a large project that happened to be at 96k, so put the above system together & thought all would be as smooth as my little iBook / PTLE 7.4 system used to be, only much faster. Faster, yes; smooth, not so much.

Avid, I realize you have your hands full with PT10 issues, but it's a terrible indication of how things get handled (or DON'T) to learn how long this has been an unaddressed issue. At least I'm back on my TDM system now, but from the looks of this thread there are a LOT of people who fight this show-stopper every day... unbelievable.

I posted this in a similar thread about this issue. I`ve had the same problem randomly just like you guyz until I used Onyx. Its a freeware utility for Mac users which cleans your system. Since then this problem is gone forever.

Give it a shot, no harm, no risk. The worst can happen is that this problem stays there.

Don't think it's ever been addressed - just might want to try the fixes prescribed here in this thread - good luck (I hated this one)

I tried different things, but it seems to have started when I changed from Pro Tools Aggregate I/O to my specific hardware, Mackie 1620i.

I wound up doing a clean install of OsX and Pro Tools. That did it.
